TRIP 563 - Project Managemnt for Transltn Credits: 4
The class facilitates understanding of a multilingual workflow in which students may be freelance translators, project managers, or another role in the translation project process. We discuss implications for translation theory, particularly to questions of faithfulness, invisibility, and cultural transmission. Readings address these implications and professional trends and techniques. The skills taught are designed to help students streamline their own professional, freelance, and academic processes, and may include researching the translation industry, analyzing and composing quotes, purchase orders (POs), invoices, and budgets, planning and tracking, organization of files and directory structures using professional software, and freelance bookkeeping. Experience is helpful but not a prerequisite. only.
