AAAS 361 - Korea in the Age of Empire Credits: 4
This course provides a historical overview of the cultural practices and political economy in Korea from its ?opening? in 1876 to ?liberation? from Japanese colonial rule in 1945. Major themes include the transition from a Sino-centric world order, reform movements, nationalism, forms of governance, social and economic changes, and everyday life in the Japanese empire. Students will engage with primary and archival sources, debate reformist platforms, and explore diverse identities, aspirations, and visions within a broader global context. No prerequisites.
