CHIN 104 - Elementary Chinese II Heritage

Credits: 4

A continuation of CHIN 103, this course is for students who have a certain level of spoken or listening proficiency in Mandarin or another Chinese dialect (such as Cantonese or Fuzhounese) who have successfully completed CHIN 103 or have equivalent proficiency. The course materials, requirements, learning outcomes, and assessments are the same as CHIN 102; however, the instructional approach and classroom focus are tailored to students with prior exposure to the language. Upon completion, students will be able to converse in Mandarin on topics such as the weather, giving directions, seeing a doctor, renting an apartment, discussing sports, and planning trips. Students will also be able to read and write short stories using a wider range of Chinese characters on these topics. Prerequisite: CHIN 103 or equivalent. Offered in Spring only.
